First Bullet Museum – Dörtyol / Hatay

The project includes the landscape design for the reorganization of the museum garden as part of the restoration of the Dörtyol Atatürk House and First Bullet Museum. The design aims to create an open space compatible with the historical and cultural identity of the building. By integrating the traditional garden culture of Hatay with contemporary needs, a functional landscape scheme has been developed where visitors can rest, circulate, and enjoy an enhanced museum experience.

Within the scope of the study, the historic character of the building, the existing courtyard layout, circulation relationships, climatic conditions, and region-specific vegetation were evaluated. The courtyard culture of traditional Hatay houses, local plant species, and patterns of open-space use were analysed to establish the design principles that would form the basis of a landscape arrangement integrated with the historic building.

The design approach reinterprets the courtyard character of traditional Hatay houses and the local garden culture through a contemporary landscape design perspective. By incorporating native plant species, water features, seating areas, and shaded spaces, a functional and aesthetically pleasing open space adapted to the local climatic conditions has been created. The landscape design was developed through an integrated approach that complements the architectural identity of the historic building, enhances the visitor experience, and sustains the traditional garden culture.
