Cürek Miners Village – Divrigi / Sivas

Cürek is a historic mining settlement located in the Divriği district of Sivas, reflecting the industrialization process of the Republican era. Recognized as a site of cultural and industrial heritage, it represents a significant example of a cultural landscape through its distinctive settlement pattern, natural environment, and organization of social life. This study presents a conservation-oriented landscape design proposal based on preserving the historic identity of the settlement.

Within the scope of the study, the natural and cultural landscape characteristics of the settlement, open-space uses, circulation system, vegetation pattern, and building surroundings were evaluated through a holistic approach. In addition, to determine the existing conditions, 86 buildings within the settlement were technically examined and photographically documented. Their physical conditions were analyzed, and the necessary conservation and repair interventions were identified.

The design approach aims to create a sustainable landscape framework that responds to user needs while preserving the historic fabric and distinctive spatial character of the settlement. In this context, landscape design proposals were developed for the improvement of open spaces, enhancement of pedestrian circulation, arrangement of building surroundings, conservation of the existing vegetation, and spatial interventions supporting visitor use.
